Herbs at the hotel
Many people are no longer familiar with herbs. A variety of herbs grow not only in the garden but also in window boxes or in flower pots by the window sill. And it doesn’t really matter whether they are grown from seed or bought as a plant from a specialty store.
Here is only a short excerpt from the broad pallet of herbs which give our dishes the perfect amount of pep. And not only this! If eaten regularly, they stimulate the mind and body.
Parsley
Parsley is one of the most well-known herbs. It can be used as a flat leaf for a strong taste or as a crumpled leaf for a mild taste in almost every dish. Coarsely chopped for salads, as an garnish, or added to a dish shortly before the end of cooking, parsley is a vitamin-rich and aromatic enrichment.
Chives
Chives, freshly harvested in spring, drive away spring fever, purify the blood, and provide vitamin C. They are often used as a substitute for onions or finely chopped in salads and dips.
Oregano
Thanks to its tantalizing, appetite-stimulating aroma, oregano, also known as wild marjoram, is found in all Mediterranean dishes. No longer just thought of as a pizza spice, oregano gives fish dishes and stuffings a special aromatic hint. Oregano also goes with basically all tomato dishes.
Marjoram
Marjoram is an intensely aromatic herb to be used with all potato dishes, sausages, and legumes. And it has a special quality that hardly anyone knows about: marjoram helps heavy foods to digest better. The spice can be dried, chopped up, and preserved for colder seasons.
Thyme
Thyme is very versatile. It goes with poultry, shellfish, lamb, soups, sauces, vegetables, and potatoes.
Basil
Basil, which is similar to oregano, stands out with its intense, appetite-stimulating fragrance. Sun-ripened tomatoes and subtle mozzarella mixed with good olive oil and sea salt are made a delicacy by the use of basil.
