On the broad natural ice surface of Weissensee, spacious ice hockey areas and ice stock lanes invite beginners and experts to join in a friendly competition.
Ice stock - Ice hockey
Ice stock
Especially popular is ice stock, a true national pastime here on the Weissensee. The principle is simple: two teams try to shoot their “ice stock” (like a curling stone but with a long handle) as close as possible to the “Daube”, a type of target puck. It sounds like child’s play but is precision work. In addition, you must deal with the icy surface, which is often unpredictable, and the ice stocks of your opponents.
Ice hockey
As soon as the first ice appears, everyone, locals and guests, already have their skates on. The local kids will clear their own ice hockey field themselves with their snow shovels. For our guests on the Weissensee, our ice master Norbert Jank checks and prepares the ice and the 30 x 60 m ice rink. This Canadian winter sport, during which two teams do everything they can to get the small puck into the opposing goal, is very popular here.
